Kaplan Books

I finally got my hands on the Step 2 Kaplan books. There are 5 in total, covering internal medicine, surgery, pediatrics, epidemiology (puke) and obs&gyn. I've just flipped through them for now, and so far, they seem pretty reasonable. If you used any of Kaplan books for Step 1, it's the same sort of format. Nicely spaced out, not at all like BRS. I'll post some more details as I get a chance to actually read them.

  • Hello, I am an IMG, you can call me the anonymous99. I recently found the other USMLE Step 1 Blog, that is actually very useful, and I have some questions.
-Did you used Kaplan books for step 1?
-To what subject do you think it is worth to spend more time?
-Can you please tell me what strategie of study is better for Step 1, by system or by subject?
-Could you please post a list of what do you consider were the highest yield topics for step 1? Example: HIV-treatment, etc...(Note: I am not asking for questions or content in the exam, I know this is ilegal)
Also it would be useful if you post an schedule of what you did or study in the past week by hour, from now on....

  • Hi anonymous99, thanks for stopping by.

I really didn't use Kaplan books for Step 1, mostly because I only had access to the Pathology book, which I used very infrequently when BRS didn't cut it.

I spent the most amount of time on Path, and the least on Biochem.

I am a firm believer in the subject based system, ergo, I used to OLDER First Aid, before they mutilated it to system based.

Let me get back you on the topics. If you followed the blog, you'll see what I studied and when during the summer time. I'll see if I can fish up the schedule (which, actually, I didn't really use)

    Good luck!
    Pol
